Geospatial Research

Faculty and student research teams are involved in a number of geospatial research endeavors, most of which combine Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with satellite or airborne remote sensing data analysis. The research group partners with federal, state, and local agencies and private groups to address real world problems in the areas of natural hazards, environment, and tectonics.

Graduates from the Geology and Environmental Geosciences program are employed by a wide variety of geospatial employers. Research oriented students have completed graduate degrees. A few of the graduate programs are listed below.

  • Ph.D. University of Hawaii, volcanology and remote sensing
  • Ph.D. Arizona State University, planetary remote sensing
  • Ph.D. University of Tennessee, terrestrial remote sensing
  • Ph.D. University of Maryland, biological remote sensing
  • Ph.D. University of South Carolina, terrestrial remote sensing
